UNRWA expresses its appreciation for Jordan's support for the agency

The Director of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) for the Jordan region, Olaf Becker, expressed his appreciation and thanks to the Jordanian government for its continued support for the agency, and its recent exemption to UNRWA from the cost of school books for the years 2019-2023, amounting to 4 million Jordanian dinars.

This came during a meeting between the Director General of the Department of Palestinian Affairs, Engineer Rafiq Khirfan, and his counterpart Baker, during which a number of topics and issues related to UNRWA’s work in the Kingdom were discussed.

The two sides discussed the general situation of UNRWA in light of the suspension of 16 donor countries, following the accusations leveled against 12 employees for their involvement in the events of October 7.

The two sides stressed the important role played by UNRWA, especially in Gaza, and that this suspension will hinder the provision of basic humanitarian aid that they desperately need.
