The Parliamentary Palestine Committee visits Palestinian affairs

 

The Parliamentary Palestine Committee visited the Department of Palestinian Affairs on Tuesday, February 13, where it met with Engineer Rafiq Khirfan, Director General of the Department, to discuss the current situation and the repercussions of the war on Gaza and the cessation of funding for the International Relief Agency “UNRWA” by many donor countries.

Kherfan welcomed the Chairman and members of the Palestine Parliamentary Committee, appreciating their efforts and interest in all issues related to the Palestinian issue and the war on Gaza. He also provided a short overview of the department’s work, represented by the two political aspects, which stems from the firm and unchanging position of His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein that the Palestinian issue is Jordan’s first issue. As for the service aspect, it includes providing services to Palestinian refugees and facilitating the work of UNRWA, which is the symbol and true witness to the suffering of Palestinian refugees, stressing the importance of continuing its work and pointing out that the crisis that UNRWA is exposed to with the suspension of funding from many donor countries will result in bad consequences that will be reflected on the refugees. Palestinians and their host countries.

Chairman of the Palestine Parliamentary Committee, Representative Firas Al-Ajarma, said that His Majesty the King is leading international efforts to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza, support UNRWA so that it can continue to carry out its duty, and urge donor countries to return their support to the agency, pointing to His Majesty’s participation in the recent airdrop of aid to Gaza, Which included medical and relief supplies.

For their part, the representatives: Fayez Basbous, Muhammad Al-Hilalat, Muhammad Abu Sailik, Omar Al-Nabr, and Hayel Ayyash stressed the necessity of continuing the work of UNRWA so that it can carry out its humanitarian duty, saying: This agency is the true witness to the right of return and self-determination, even if it is stopped. Its funding is to settle refugees in their places of residence.

They condemned the targeting of civilians, children, women and the elderly in the Gaza Strip, warning of the repercussions of a humanitarian catastrophe in Rafah, as a result of the brutal attack on it by the Israeli occupation.

They stressed the importance of the Hashemite custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Al-Quds Al-Sharif, warning against escalation by the occupation authorities in the holy places.

 

Kherfan praised the efforts of Jordanian diplomacy, led by His Majesty the King and managed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, ayman Al-Safadi, in order to stop the war on Gaza and provide it with aid, under the supervision and participation of His Majesty the King and His Highness Crown Prince Hussein.
